In 2012, Woodchuck Hard Cider was purchased by Irish beverage company C&C Group. According to executive David Mandler, the group was founded specifically in order to procure Vermont Hard Cider Company, and all employees and contracts will remain in place upon purchase. The sale was officially completed in April 2021.
Is Woodchuck cider better than Angry Orchard?
The Woodchuck Hard Cider, brewed in nearby Middlebury, Vermont, is a tad sweeter than Angry Orchard, and (in my opinion) tastes more akin to non-alcoholic apple cider than Angry Orchard. Slightly less than Angry Orchard but at least a bottle of Woodchuck has less calories than its competitor.

Why is it called a woodchuck?
They actually get their name from the Algonquin tribe of Native Americans, who originally called them “wuchak.” English settlers, in trying to use that word, likely came up with the name “woodchuck.” Depending on where you are in the country, woodchucks are also known as groundhogs, land beavers, and whistling pigs.
